How can we help you?

Air Purifiers

Generally speaking, once a season you should expect to change the filters in your Air Purifier if you use it daily. If your Air Purifier digital display is showing F-1 and/or F-2, this means that either one or both
of your filters needs to be replaced.

For accurate air quality display readings, the sensor and sensor screen should be thoroughly cleaned once every 3 months. Instructions on how to do so can be found in your User Guide.

Though the grill on top of the BISSELL Air 220 & Air 320 expands the entire width of the unit for aesthetics, the air is dispersed from the aperture positioned on the right-hand side only.

The machine uses a PM2.5 Particulate Sensor found in most high-end air purifiers. The 'surging' occurs when the sensor detects an increase in particle count - it increases to maximum to clear the air as quickly as possible. Remember: These sensors can detect particles down to 0.3 microns - a microscopic level of dust, dander, and pollutants. Though you may think your home is clean, the air purifier is constantly reacting to the quality of the air that is moving throughout the home. You can override the sudden change in fan speed by setting the purifier onto any one of the preset fan speeds to maintain a consistently comfortable level of noise.

Carpet Cleaners

No. Some carpet washers are better suited to cleaning small, everyday messes such as small spills, spots and upholstery - like our portable range. For cleaning whole homes with rooms of carpet and upholstery, you may want to consider one of our full-size upright machines.

When purchasing a deep cleaner to clean your entire home, it is important to consider features such as the tank capacity, features, and attachments.

Generally no. Though some of our carpet washers have an optional bare floor tool which you can use on your hard floors once attached. Please refer back to your User Manual or contact us to confirm if a particular Bare Floor Tool can be purchased for your machine.

It depends on the length of the pile. Always consult the carpet manufacturer's cleaning instructions to ensure compatibility, and perform a test patch in discreet area first. Generally, we do not recommend using any BISSELL carpet washer that has a motorised brush roll on shag pile. Due to the length of the fibres, the motorised brush roll can snag, tangle, or pull at the threads.

You may want to consider our SpotClean Turbo + AntiBac unit that comes with the Deep Stain Tool, specifically designed for deep and shag pile rugs/carpets.

The mix of water and cleaning formula is essential to the dirt removal and carpet protection process. While most carpet types can be cleaned with water, BISSELL recommends following the carpet manufacturer’s suggestions when deep cleaning your carpet.

Yes. Carpet washers are not designed for debris or hair. Vacuum thoroughly prior to using your carpet washer. It is normal to find debris and hair clumping to the surface of your carpet as you use your carpet washer - this is the debris and hair your vacuum has missed over time being brought to the surface by the deep cleaning process.

Most of the low-foaming formulas for our portable spot cleaning machines are labelled as '2X Concentrate' - so a little goes a long way. We recommend no more than 15 - 30ml of formula per full tank of water. Combine with at least 60ml of Oxy Boost when cleaning tough stains or lighter-coloured fabrics/carpets. If your formulas are not marked as '2X Concentrate', we recommend following the guidelines marked on your tank or in your machine's User Guide.

If the carpet still feels stiff after shampooing, it is most likely you have used too much formula and residue remains in the carpet fibres. A number of our formulas are 2X concentrate - so using less than what is recommended on the tank is sometimes best. When used as directed, it is not necessary to perform a rinse cycle when using a BISSELL carpet washer. Select BISSELL formulas contain StainProtect to protect carpet from future stains, in addition to continuing to work on stains as the carpet dries. If too much formula has been used, you can easily perform a final water-only rinse over the affected area by using the machine with water in the tank only.

BISSELL recommends a thorough deep cleaning of your carpet once a season. For high-traffic areas, or if you have pets or asthmatics in the home, you may find it necessary to deep clean your carpets more frequently to control allergens. Clean spots, spills, and stains as needed and ideally as soon as they occur.

BISSELL upright carpet washers are designed for use as wet extractors only. Thoroughly vacuum debris and hair from your carpet with a separate dry vacuum prior to using your BISSELL carpet washer. Improper use can result in damage to the machine. Refer to the "How to Use" section of your User Manual.

Even though pre-treatment of your carpet with a stain repellant helps resist stains, carpet manufacturers typically recommend maintenance of their “stain resistant” carpets. This is because dust mites, allergens, stains, embedded dirt and ground-in dirt should be flushed from the carpet fibres to prevent odours, bacteria growth, and damage to the resistant coating.

Even though the carpet may be resistant to stains, extraction of embedded dirt, pet accidents, and spills is still required.

Select BISSELL formulas contain StainProtect to help protect your carpet from future stains.

No manufacturer of domestic and commercial carpet washers is more experienced in the deep cleaning category than BISSELL. In all modesty, we pioneered the category and have been doing it longer than anyone else. BISSELL cleaning machines are recognised as the high-quality standard of the industry with durability and reliability engineered into each unit, every step of the way.

We also offer a whole suite of biodegradable, family-safe cleaning formulas to work with our machines to give you the best results, made in the US by industry-leading BISSELL chemists.

A BISSELL carpet washer machine is safe and effective on many carpet types, although certain delicate carpets need extra special care. BISSELL recommends checking and following the care label and/or manufacturer's cleaning instructions for carpets, rugs, upholstery, and car interiors prior to using our products. We do not recommend using carpet washers with motorised brushes on delicate pure wool, loop-pile, viscose, jute, velvet, silk, leather, natural suede.

Yes. BISSELL carpet washers put you in control of the water output. Simply press the trigger in the handle to wash, and release the trigger to dry.

No. Please only use only WARM tap water - up to 60 degrees Celsius. Using hot water can warp the tanks and damage components of your machine.

Yes, you can - although please note the warranty on your machine will be the Commercial 1 Year Warranty instead of the Domestic 2 Year Warranty. See your User Manual for details.

After checking the fabric upholstery you want to clean is compatible with hot water extraction/upholstery washing, perform a test patch in a discreet area.

Then follow our short tutorial on the best process for cleaning upholstery with a BISSELL here. Though the video shows an example of a BISSELL SpotClean cleaning a lounge, the process applies for all fabric upholstery, and all BISSELL portable machines/upright machines with an upholstery hose.

You can also refer to User Manual.

Carpet washers clean far deeper than dry vacuums. It is normal find debris and hair on the surface of your carpet after cleaning your carpets - this is the debris your dry vacuum has missed over time.

To minimise this, vacuum your carpet thoroughly prior to using your BISSELL carpet washer - preferably using a corded vacuum with a motorised head.

If clumps of debris have been brought to the surface after washing your carpets, simply pick them up by hand or wait for the carpet to dry and vacuum the debris away.

Yes. You are able to use the formulas designed for portable spot cleaners in full-size upright carpet washers - as they're low-foaming.

Formulas labelled for use in full-size upright carpet washers aren't compatible for use in portable spot cleaners though, as they contain a higher concentration of foaming agents and active ingredients.

Drying time varies greatly depending on the type of carpet or fabric upholstery, thickness and density of the fibres, air flow around the area, and the cleaning technique used.

It is best to wait at least three hours before walking on the carpet after deep cleaning. Depending on the mode used, dry time can be up to 6 - 8 hours.

Some of our full-size upright machines include Express Mode - which can have carpets dry in as little as 30 minutes when used as directed.

The user is in control of the water output with BISSELL machines. Press the trigger in the handle to release water & formula, then let go of the trigger and repeat your passes slowly to dry.

Yes - you can purchase new tanks and caps through the BISSELL website, or by calling our Customer Care Team.

Cleaning Formulas

Your BISSELL is designed to use specific formulas. To find the appropriate formulas for your machine please refer to your user manual or each product's listing on our website.

Portable spot cleaners (i.e. the SpotClean and Stain Eraser series) aren't compatible with formulas for full-size upright machines.

Formulas for portable machines are 2x concentrated and are low-foaming. 15ml - 30ml per full tank of water is sufficient for most cleaning tasks. Using the incorrect formula in a portable machine can cause over-foaming, resulting in foam being ejected from the machine and the dirt tank automatic suction cut-off to engage prematurely.

Full-Size upright carpet washers can use BISSELL formulas labelled for full-size upright machines and any formulas labelled for portables.

Hard floor cleaners can only use specific hard floor formulas.

Compatible formulas for your machine are outlined in the machine's User Guide. The labels of each bottle of formula also specifies which machine it is designed for. Please click here for formula chart.

You can also find compatible formulas for specific machines on each product's page under the relevant tab.

Each formula listed on our website will have the compatible models it is for outlined under the 'Compatible Models' tab.

Yes. When used as directed, all BISSELL formulas are safe for septic systems.

No. BISSELL machines are specifically designed to be used with water combined their relevant formula only. Using anything other than what is recommended in your machine's User Manual can damage components of the machine, result in unpredictable or undesired effects on the carpet/fabric you are cleaning, and can void your warranty.

You can purchase BISSELL formulas from most leading electrical retailers, both in store and online. You can also purchase formulas directly through our website.

The vast majority of our formulas are designed, formulated, and manufactured in-house by BISSELL in the US.

Pretreating is the first step in deep cleaning your carpets or fabric upholstery. For best results, particularly on set-in stains, use the pretreatment spray at least 15 minutes prior to using the machine. Pretreating beforehand loosens and mobilises embedded dirt, stains, and odours, allowing for optimal cleaning results. Find our range of BISSELL pretreatment sprays here.

BISSELL Oxy Boost is designed to be used in conjunction with BISSELL formula to boost cleaning performance. We recommend adding Oxy Boost to your tank with your formula for best results on old stains, stubborn messes, and lighter-coloured fabrics or carpets.

Only BISSELL has HydroSteam™ Technology across a family of products including: CrossWave®, Revolution® and SpotClean®. You can find our HydroSteam range of products HERE.

Hard Floors & Steam Mops

It has been thoroughly tested and well documented that steam mops and steam cleaners when used as directed are safe for use on sealed hard floors, including sealed timber, sealed laminate, tiles, polished concrete, slate, and vinyl. If unsure, it is recommended to consult your flooring manufacturer and perform a test patch in a discreet area.

Mop pads can be machine washed in warm water. Use only non-bleach liquid detergents. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach. For best results, hand wash and air dry.

Your BISSELL Steam Mop has been designed to be used with tap water, although to prolong its life the use of demineralised water is strongly recommended. Demineralised water is a special type of purified water that has been processed to removes all of its minerals and salt ions.

Tap water generally contains numerous impurities, minerals and other organic compounds that can damage steam mops and other products with boilers such as kettles, irons etc. Especially if you live in an area with hard water, minerals like calcium can contribute to lime scale build up adversely affecting performance, steam generation and the life of your BISSELL.

You can purchase scented demineralised water for steam mops through our website. Regular deminerlised water can be found at most supermarkets.

No. Doing so can void the warranty, damage your machine, and make the appliance unsafe for use.

BISSELL steam mops have steam on demand triggers - this is the safest option for your floors and most economical with water usage. You're only using steam when you need it.

The trigger allows you to park the machine safely on your floor while you've paused cleaning to move furniture/pick up toys out of the way etc.

Check the water filter for any discoloration (on applicable models). If you have not changed your filter for 6-8 months, it may be clogged and need replacement. You can purchase new water filters from our website, or call our Customer Care Team for assistance on 1300 247 735.

Check you have enough water in the water tank. If the tank is empty, refill with plain tap water or demineralised water. Do not fill your steam cleaner with alcohol, vinegar, essential oils or other foreign product - as this can damage your machine and make it unsafe for use.

Make sure your steam cleaner is primed. With the machine on and filled with water, hold the trigger down for 1 to 2 minutes until you see steam.

Check the steam tips for any blockages. With the machine off, cooled, and unplugged - use the end of a paper clip to clear any potential build-up that could be blocking the steam tip.

Contact BISSELL Customer Care on 1300 247 735 if you still cannot get your steam mop to generate steam.

BISSELL invented and released the CrossWave multi-surface hard floor washer in 2016, meaning we're the most experienced brand in this category of cleaner. CrossWave is the first of its kind to truly vacuum, wash, and sanitise hard floors at the same time. Select CrossWave models can even refresh area rugs and low-pile carpets, making them a true multi-surface cleaning system. Imitators from other brands tend to just sweep the floor, are generally limited to cleaning hard floors only, do not feature BISSELL's patented tangle-free brush roll, and do not sanitise. We're so confident you will love your CrossWave, we offer a 60-Day Money Back Guarantee with select models.

The suction will shut off automatically when the dirt tank is full. Empty the dirt tank to resume cleaning.

Ensure the filter is washed regularly, and is 100% dry and clean from debris between uses. CrossWave filters should be changed every 3 - 4 months. Ensure your machine has no blockages, and that the brush roll cover is on securely.

CrossWave is suitable for use on all sealed hard floors. If you can use a mop and bucket or spray mop on your floors without issue, it would broadly be safe to assume you can use a CrossWave. CrossWave only releases approximately 1 tablespoon of water per square metre when used as directed. If unsure, it is recommended to perform a test patch in a discreet area first.

If wet mode has been used (activated by pressing the trigger in the handle on relevant models), Crosswave will release water to mop the floor. It will be less wet compared to regular mopping, as the vacuum action sucks up excess water. Most floors will dry within a few minutes, and the more dry passes you do over your floor - the quicker the area will dry.

Each home and floor type is different. Streaks can occur for a variety of reasons - from the technique used with the machine, to the type of flooring, to the amount of product built up from previous cleaning methods... Even to the amount of dirt on the floor, or whether the bottom of your machine is dirty or not. Here are some tips that may assist:

1. To prevent floors from streaking with Crosswave, make sure you are using the appropriate amount of formula in the tank. Our Multi-Surface Pet formula is 7x concentrate - use less of this formula than what's recommended in the User Manual or on the tank markings. Our Wood Floor Formula, Hard Floor Sanitise Formula, and Area Rug Formula are non-concenrates - so follow the guidelines on the tank for those. Some high-gloss floors respond better to the Hard Floor Sanitise Formula due to its higher alcohol content. You can also try using deminerlised water - this is particularly helpful if you live in an area with hard water or tank water.

2. Streaks can also occur if you’re applying too much water to the floor. Once you have completed your slow wet passes (pressing the trigger), ensure you repeat these slow passes using dry mode (releasing the trigger) to suction up excess water.

3. Ensure you're moving Crosswave far slower than you would with a traditional vacuum - the slower you move the machine, the better the result you will have. Clean in slow straight lines back and forth where possible, and clean along the grain of the floor.

4. We also suggest to try the machine with an alternative brush roll. Each floor is different, and some floors respond better to our Wood Floor Brush Roll. This brush roll is comprised solely of soft microfibre, which tends to leave a better finish on high-gloss floors.

5. Always ensure the bottom of your machine is kept clean, the wheels are wiped down regularly, the filter is always kept clean and dry, and the machine is well maintained.

Replace your CrossWave filter once every 3 - 4 months. Replace your CrossWave brush roll once every six months, or as needed. Spare filters and brush rolls can be purchased from leading electrical retailers and the BISSELL website.

CrossWave is primarily to be used on sealed hard floors. Select models feature an Area Rug Mode for refreshing low-pile rugs and low-pile carpet.

You can lightly refresh your low-pile carpets with select Crosswave models, but it isn't designed to be a carpet washer replacement or stand-alone dry vacuum replacement for carpets.

For deep carpet cleaning and stain removal we suggest looking into our range of carpet washers.

To avoid wheel marks, first ensure the wheels of your machine aren't dirty. Wipe them clean with a damp cloth from time to time to ensure you're not dragging dirt around. Cleaning in slow straight lines back and forth so that the brush roll is the last part to touch the area you're cleaning will avoid any wheel marks or wheel lines as you clean. It's a good idea to use the machine in the same manner you would normally mop - starting at the corner of the room furthest to the exit, and work your way back.

Ensure you are only putting lukewarm tap water in the tank (not hot or boiling) along with CrossWave compatible formula. Failing to do so can warp your tank, and incompatible products can erode the tank seals. Ensure the two tank cap components (the collar that screws around the bottle opening, and the valve/grill insert) are clicked together securely - they can be separated, but need to be clicked together securely prior to being screwed back on to the tank. Check when screwing the cap back onto the tank that it isn't cross-threaded - if the threads aren't lined up properly, the tank will leak when turned upside down. If you have damaged your tank, you can order a new one from the BISSELL website.

The functions, included accessories, warranty, suction motor strength, and other features can differ between models. To find the right machine for you, use our website's compare function to compare up to three products at a time. Look for the 'Compare' or 'Compare this product' buttons.

No. Hand wash removable parts in warm water with mild detergent only, rinsing thoroughly before drying. Ensure all parts are completely dry before reinstalling. Refer to your User Manual for cleaning and maintenance instructions.

In its exclusive SteamWash Mode, CrossWave HydroSteam uses HydroSteam Technology to loosen and lift sticky or tough stuck-on messes up to 20% better than CrossWave models without HydroSteam Technology.

SteamWash Mode releases water, cleaning formula, and steam (generated from water and cleaning formula) to release stuck-on and sticky messes from the surface more efficiently. All other CrossWave models use water and cleaning formula only.

No. SpinWave Cordless uses tap water and BISSELL hard floor formula.

With the machine switched OFF, remove the mop pads - underneath you will see a screw in the centre of each disc. Tighten this screw with a Philips head screwdriver as they may be loose. Please note one disc's screw will tighten clockwise, the other will tighten counter-clockwise. If the issue persists, please contact BISSELL customer service.

Vacuums & Robots

If your vacuum is blowing dust from the exhaust filter when switched on, it is likely your pre-motor and post-motor filter need to be cleaned, replaced, or a filter isn't in correctly.

Refer to your User Manual for filter maintenance instructions.

Make sure there are no clogs in the hose. To unclog the hose massage the clogged area to work the debris out from the hose. Check the hose for any damage.

If you are still having difficulty, please contact us on 1300 247 735 or consumercareau@bissell.com

No or low suction is most commonly attributed to a blockage within the airpath of the vacuum, or dirty filters. Ensure you remove and wash your vacuum's filters at least monthly - washing them under running water until they are clean, and leaving them to dry thoroughly before reinserting into the cleaner.

Spare filters can be purchased online here.

Check for hair and debris wrapped around the brush roll and the brush roll spindle and mechanisms.

Check the belts for your brush roll. If they have snapped, you can purchase replacement belts here.

Contact BISSELL customer care if you need further assistance.

Contact BISSELL customer care for warranty and servicing options. Do not attempt to access or replace the battery of your cordless vacuum yourself if it is housed internally.

Select vacuum models have removable batteries. You can purchase additional batteries here.

On average, you should clean your vacuum's pre-motor filters every four uses or once a month. Consult your vacuum's User Manual for instructions on how to do this. Ensure the filters are completely dry before reinserting into the vacuum cleaner. Spare sets or Replacement filters can be purchased here.

Ensure all cables, chargers, shoelaces, and anything that could potentially get caught around the spinning brushes of the robot are picked up off the floor prior to starting the robot. This also includes loose or lightweight rugs/bath mats, or anything with tassels. This will ensure the robot doesn't get stuck somewhere unexpectedly.

The robot is designed for hard floors and low-pile carpets & rugs - thick carpets can stall the wheels or brushes, and black coloured floors can be problematic for the sensors.

You can check the Firmware version installed on your robot by going into the settings menu on the app. Interacting with this menu should prompt for a Firmware update if one is available. Ensure you are also running the latest version of the app by checking for updates in your phone's app store.

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact BISSELL customer care.

It is likely the brush roll, brush roll spindle, or spinning edge sweepers have hair or debris wrapped around them. They are removable so it is best to remove and inspect them from time to time. Check that the brush cover/sole plate is installed correctly, and that there are no blockages or obstructions in the air path/brush roll housing of the machine.

It depends on your household. If your home is quite open-plan and has a majority of hard floors with occasional low-pile rugs/low-pile carpets - you may find a robot sufficient for floor cleaning. We would still recommend using a robot vacuum to compliment your main vacuum cleaner though - particularly if you have multiple rooms of carpet in your home, and to clean areas other than the floor - like skirting boards, upholstery, stairs, corners etc.

Download app from the Apple App Store, or the Google Play Store.

The SpinWave Robot, SpinWave R5 Robot, & CleanView Connect Robot.

BISSELL SpinWave R5 is the only BISSELL robotic vacuum + mop that maps your space using 360-Degree LiDAR technology combined with the BISSELL Connect App. This means the robot intelligently navigates your space - knowing where it has been and where it has yet to clean. Within the app, you're able to divide your home into zones and schedule certain areas to be cleaned at different times, and block out zones where the robot can and can't go. CleanView Connect and original SpinWave Robot do not have mapping capabilities.
