The BISSELL Symphony Pet Vac & Steam Cleaner is designed to simplify hard floor cleaning by combining two essential cleaning tasks into one device. With the ability to vacuum pet hair, dust and dry debris while simultaneously steam cleaning your floors, the Symphony Pet helps you achieve a deeper clean in less time without needing to switch between multiple cleaning tools.
Built specifically for pet-friendly households and busy families, the Symphony Pet combines powerful cyclonic vacuum technology with the natural sanitising power of steam. Using only water, the Symphony Pet helps you win the fight against indoor allergens and can kill 99.9% of germs, bacteria and viruses* with the natural power of steam, helping you maintain a cleaner home without relying on harsh chemicals.
Below, we'll explore the key features of the Symphony Pet, explain how to use it step-by-step and provide some simple maintenance tips to help keep it performing at its best.
Key Features of the Symphony Pet Vac & Steam Cleaner
The Symphony Pet combines the convenience of a stick vacuum with the cleaning power of a steam mop, allowing you to vacuum and steam clean your hard floors simultaneously.
With its powerful cyclonic vacuum system, the bagless vacuum effectively captures pet hair, dust, dirt and dry debris, helping reduce the amount of sweeping and pre-cleaning required before mopping. The removable dirt container is easy to empty using the innovative BISSELL Drop-IT™ Tank Emptying System, which helps minimise contact with collected debris.
The Symphony Pet also uses the natural power of steam to sanitise hard floors without the need for detergents, BISSELL cleaning formulas or chemicals. By using water alone, it can help eliminate common household germs and bacteria while leaving sealed hard floors feeling cleaner and fresher.
With Easy Touch Digital Controls™, you can switch between vacuum-only, steam-only or vacuum-and-steam modes with the touch of a button. The machine also features both high and low steam settings, making it easy to adjust cleaning performance depending on your floor type and cleaning requirements.
Reusable microfibre BISSELL mop pads further enhance convenience and sustainability. The washable pads can be reused multiple times and are suitable for a variety of hard floor surfaces, helping reduce ongoing cleaning costs while delivering effective cleaning performance. And finally, all of this comes with a 1500W motor, 7-metre power cord and a lightweight 4.81kg design for excellent manoeuvrability and reach.
How to Use the Symphony Pet Vac & Steam Cleaner
Assembly
The Symphony Pet is quick and easy to assemble without requiring any tools. Begin by inserting the main body into the foot of the machine until the locking tab clicks securely into place. Next, insert the handle into the body until you hear a second click. Once assembled, your machine is ready to prepare for cleaning.
Preparing the Machine
Before cleaning, make note of all the steam cleaner attachments. Attach one of the included microfibre mop pads to the mop pad tray if it is not already installed. To do this, step on the foot release and lift the machine off the mop pad tray. Wrap the mop pad around the tray, ensuring the grey stitching faces the front of the machine and the quick-release tab is positioned at the rear. If your model includes freshening scent discs, place a disc inside the mesh pocket of the mop pad before installation. You can use a full disc for a stronger scent or half a disc for a lighter fragrance. Place the tray back onto the floor and position the machine on top until it clicks securely into place.
Next, fill the water tank. Open the Easy Fill cap located on the back of the machine and use the supplied water cup to fill the tank with water. For best results, use room-temperature water and avoid overfilling the tank. Once filled, securely close the Easy Fill opening. The 384mL water tank will provide approximately 15 minutes of steam cleaning, depending on the steam level selected and usage during cleaning. BISSELL recommends using distilled or demineralised water where possible to help prolong the life of the machine and reduce mineral build-up.
Once the water tank is filled, fully unwrap the power cord and plug the machine into a nearby power outlet. During the first use, or after refilling the tank, the pump may make a knocking sound for up to 30 seconds. This is normal.
Understanding the Cleaning Modes
The Symphony Pet offers three cleaning options depending on your needs.
Vacuum & Steam Simultaneously
This Mode allows you to vacuum dry debris while steam cleaning your hard floors at the same time, helping save time during routine cleaning.
Steam Only
Steam cleaning can be used independently when floors require sanitising or mopping without vacuuming.
Vacuum Only
The cyclonic vacuum can be used on its own to pick up pet hair, dust and debris without activating the steam function.
Choosing Your Steam Setting
The Easy Touch Digital Controls™ allow you to select between two steam levels.
High Steam (HI)
High Steam is designed for durable floor surfaces and tougher messes such as sticky spills, dried-on dirt and high-traffic areas.
Low Steam (LO)
Low Steam is ideal for delicate sealed hard floors and everyday maintenance cleaning. To activate steam, select either the High or Low steam setting and then hold the steam trigger located underneath the handle. Steam will only be released while the trigger is pressed.
Cleaning Your Floors
After filling the tank and selecting your desired cleaning mode, allow approximately 30 seconds for the machine to heat up. To steam clean, press and hold the steam trigger while moving the machine slowly across the floor. For simultaneous vacuuming and steam cleaning, switch the vacuum function on and clean as normal.
For best results, move the machine slowly and evenly across the surface, allowing the steam to penetrate and loosen dirt while the vacuum removes dry debris. If the machine stops producing steam during cleaning, switch it off, unplug it and refill the water tank before continuing.
The Symphony Pet is designed for sealed hard floors, including tile, laminate, vinyl, polished concrete and sealed timber floors. But it can also be used to freshen low-pile rugs and carpets. Avoid using steam on unsealed wood flooring or surfaces that are not steam-safe. To sanitise an area, BISSELL recommends using a clean microfibre mop pad and making at least three slow passes over the area using continuous steam.
The Symphony Pet Vac & Steam Cleaner is Perfect For...
The Symphony Pet is perfectly designed for pet owners looking to simplify their floor cleaning routine. Pet hair, tracked-in dirt, food spills, and muddy paw prints can all be tackled in a single pass thanks to the combination of vacuum and steam-cleaning functions. Families with children will also appreciate the ability to clean and sanitise sealed hard floors using only water. The chemical-free steam cleaning system provides added peace of mind in homes where children and pets regularly play on the floor.
Homes with large areas of tile, vinyl, laminate, sealed timber or polished concrete flooring will love the time-saving combination of vacuuming and steam cleaning simultaneously. Instead of completing two separate cleaning tasks, the Symphony Pet allows you to vacuum and mop in one efficient process. It’s ideal for anyone looking to reduce the number of cleaning appliances they need.
Care and Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps keep your Symphony Pet Vac & Steam Cleaner performing at its best while maintaining strong vacuum suction, consistent steam performance and overall cleaning effectiveness. Cleaning the mop pads, dirt tank, filters and steam components regularly can also help extend the life of the machine. Always unplug the machine before performing any maintenance.
Removing and Cleaning the Mop Pads
After each cleaning session, remove the microfibre mop pad and wash it to maintain effective steam cleaning performance.
To remove the mop pad, unplug the machine and step on the foot release to detach the mop pad tray. Carefully lift the machine away from the tray, keeping in mind that the tray and mop pad may still be warm immediately after use. Using the quick-release tab, remove the mop pad from the tray.
The reusable microfibre mop pads can be machine-washed in warm water using a liquid detergent. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners, as these may affect cleaning performance and reduce the lifespan of the pads. For best results, allow the mop pads to air dry completely before reinstalling them. Once the pad has been removed, place the tray back on the floor and position the machine onto the tray until it clicks securely into place.
Emptying the Dirt Tank
The Easy Empty dirt tank should be emptied whenever debris reaches the ‘Full’ line marked on the side of the container. To remove the tank, unplug the machine and slide the lock button on the front of the unit to the left. Lift the dirt tank away from the machine and hold it over a rubbish bin. Press the bottom release button located on the rear of the tank to release the collected dirt and debris.
The Symphony Pet also features an innovative Drop-ITTM Emptying System, which helps remove debris that may become trapped inside the dirt container. To use this feature, locate the coloured rod attached to the vacuum filter inside the dirt tank. Pull the rod upward and lock it into position by turning it clockwise. Press down on the lever to help force out any stuck debris.
Once complete, rotate the rod back counterclockwise and return it to its original position. After emptying, close the tank lid securely and reinstall the dirt tank onto the machine. Slide the lock button back to the centre position until it locks securely. For a deeper clean, the dirt tank can be washed using warm water and a mild detergent. Always allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
Cleaning the Vacuum Filter
A clean filter is essential for maintaining strong suction and efficient vacuum performance. BISSELL recommends cleaning the filter regularly and inspecting it after each use. To clean the filter, switch the machine off and unplug it from the power outlet. Remove the dirt tank and take out the vacuum filter. Firmly tap the filter against the inside of a rubbish bin to remove loose dirt and dust.
Once clean, reinstall the filter into the dirt tank and reattach the dirt tank to the machine.
After heavy use, the pleated filter can also be gently hand-washed. Allow the filter to dry completely before reinstalling it into the machine.
Cleaning the Hose Tube
If suction performance decreases or debris becomes trapped inside the hose, the hose can be removed and cleaned. Begin by pulling the lower portion of the hose away from the machine body. Separate the hose into its two sections and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow the hose to dry completely before reassembly.
Once dry, align the top section of the hose with the grooves on the hose opening and twist it back into position. Ensure the lower section is securely inserted and that the hose fits tightly against the machine before use.
Cleaning the Foot and Steam Nozzle
Over time, debris, hair and mineral residue may build up around the cleaning foot and steam nozzle. To remove the foot, press the release button located on the rear pivot joint and pull the foot away from the machine. Wash the bottom of the foot and the bristles using cold water to remove dirt and debris.
Inspect the steam nozzle for any signs of blockage. If required, rinse the nozzle with water to help remove any build-up that may affect steam performance. Allow all components to dry completely before reattaching the foot. To reinstall it, place the foot on the floor and press the machine downward until you hear it click securely into position.
Caring for the Water System
For best performance and longevity, BISSELL recommends using distilled or demineralised water whenever possible. This helps minimise mineral deposits and scale build-up inside the steam system, particularly in areas with hard water.
Never add detergents, cleaning chemicals, alcohol-based products or descaling solutions to the water tank. The Symphony Pet is designed to operate using water only, and adding other substances may damage the machine or create unsafe operating conditions.
A Note on Sanitisation
