Product Guide: Little Green®

Bissell Little Green

The BISSELL Little Green Portable Carpet Cleaner is designed to make quick work of spills, stains, pet messes and everyday accidents around your home and car. Compact yet powerful, this spot cleaner combines strong spray and suction to tackle stains on carpets, rugs, upholstery, stairs, pet beds and fabric car interiors without requiring a full-sized carpet washer.

Its lightweight design makes it easy to carry from room to room, while the long hose and power cord allow you to reach awkward corners, stairs and tight spaces with ease. From cleaning muddy paw prints from the couch or removing coffee spills from carpet to freshening up your car seats, the Little Green® is built to deliver fast, targeted cleaning wherever the mess happens.

With dedicated stain tools, dual water tanks and BISSELL’s cleaning formula included, the Little Green® provides a convenient deep-cleaning solution for homes with pets, children, busy households or anyone wanting an easy way to stay on top of small messes before they become permanent stains. Below, we’ll explore the features and explain exactly how to use the Little Green(R)  and get the most out of this powerful little carpet washer.

Features of the BISSELL Little Green®

The BISSELL Little Green(R)  may be compact, but it’s built with powerful cleaning performance in mind. Firstly, the spray and suction system works together to loosen, lift and remove stains from a variety of soft surfaces throughout your home and vehicle. But, unlike simply blotting spills or scrubbing by hand, the Little Green®  sprays cleaning solution deep into fibres before extracting dirty water back into a separate tank, helping remove messes more effectively.

One of the distinct features of the Little Green®  is its portability. Weighing just over 4.5kg, it’s easy to carry between rooms, upstairs or out to the car with a 1.5m hose and 4.5m power cord to support its movements. As a portable spot cleaner, the Little Green® also includes large dual tanks that separate clean and dirty water to streamline the cleaning process by reducing how often you need to refill or empty the machine during use.

Plus, the included accessories make the machine even more versatile. The 10cm Tough Stain Tool is ideal for lifting stains from carpet and upholstery, while the Spraying Crevice Tool helps target narrow gaps, corners, edges and tight spaces and makes it one of BISSELL’s most practical spot-cleaning solutions for everyday life.

How to Use the Little Green® Step-by-Step

Assemble the Machine

Before first use, slide the back plate of the flex hose clip into the opening on the front of the machine until it clicks into place. Next, slide the lower plate of the hose storage bracket into the opening on the back of the machine and align the screw holes.

Insert the screw and tighten it using a Phillips-head screwdriver. Once secured, wrap the flex hose around the machine and place the hose grip into the storage bracket. Turn the bracket latch clockwise to lock the hose into place.

Fill the Clean Water Tank

Remove the clean water tank by lifting it straight up and away from the machine. Unscrew the cap on the bottom of the tank and add the Spot & Stain cleaning formula (included in the box) up to the formula fill line.

Next, fill the remainder of the tank with warm tap water up to the water fill line. Make sure you don’t use boiling water or heat water in the microwave. The maximum recommended water temperature is 60°C. Once filled, screw the cap back on securely and place the tank back into the machine until it clicks into place.

Prepare the Area Before Cleaning

Before using the Little Green®, use your vacuum cleaner to remove loose dirt, debris, crumbs or pet hair. For particularly stubborn stains, apply a Tough Stain Pretreat spray directly to the affected area and allow it to sit for at least three minutes before cleaning. This helps loosen embedded dirt and improves overall stain removal results.

Attach Your Desired Tool

Release the flex hose from the storage bracket and unwrap it from the machine. Unwind the power cord and plug the machine into a nearby outlet. Then, choose the appropriate cleaning tool for your task and snap it onto the end of the hose. The included tools include:

  • 10cm Tough Stain Tool for carpets, upholstery, stairs and general stain removal

  • Spraying Crevice Tool for corners, edges, tight gaps and narrow spaces

Once attached, press the power button located beneath the handle to turn the machine on.

Clean Stains and Spills

Hold the selected tool slightly above the stained area and press the trigger to spray cleaning solution onto the surface. Release the trigger and gently scrub the stain using the bristles on the tool to help loosen dirt and marks.

With the trigger released, press the tool firmly against the surface and slowly pull it toward you to suction up the stain and dirty water. Repeat this process as needed until the area is clean. For best results, avoid over-saturating delicate fabrics and always test a small hidden area before cleaning sensitive materials.

The Little Green®  is Perfect For…

As part of the award-winning carpet washer range, the Little Green®  is great for households that need a fast, convenient way to clean everyday spills and stains without using a full-sized carpet washer. Its compact design and powerful spot-cleaning performance make it especially useful for smaller cleaning jobs that happen regularly throughout the home, whether you need to clean kitchen spills, refresh upholstery or clean your home office after everyday use.

Pet owners will also appreciate its ability to remove muddy paw prints, pet accidents, dirt and odours from carpets, rugs, stairs, pet beds and upholstery. For anyone trying to figure out how to have pets and a clean house at the same time, the Little Green®  offers an easy way to stay on top of accidents and everyday mess before stains and smells settle in.

The Little Green®  is also perfect for car owners wanting to deep clean fabric car seats, floor mats and upholstery without paying for professional detailing services. Thanks to its lightweight build and long hose, it’s easy to carry outside and manoeuvre inside vehicle interiors. For apartments, smaller homes or anyone without storage space for a large carpet washer, the Little Green® will give you targeted deep cleaning in a compact, easy-to-store machine.

Care and Maintenance

Like all carpet and upholstery cleaners, regular maintenance helps keep the Little Green®  performing at its best. After each cleaning session, it’s important to empty and rinse the dirty water tank, clean the tools and inspect the machine components for debris buildup.

Emptying the Dirty Water Tank

When the dirty water tank reaches the ‘MAX’ fill line, turn the machine off and remove the tank by lifting the tank release latch. Carefully lift the tank away from the machine and empty the dirty water into a sink or drain. Rinse the tank thoroughly with warm water before placing it back onto the machine and lowering the release latch back into position.

Cleaning the Duckbill Gasket

To help maintain suction performance, periodically remove the duckbill gasket and rinse it under clean water. Once cleaned, reinstall the gasket carefully, ensuring it is aligned correctly before further use.

Cleaning the Tools

To remove a cleaning tool, press the button above the hose grip and pull the tool straight off without twisting it. Remove the tool lens by pulling the tab upward. Rinse both the tool and lens thoroughly using warm water and allow them to dry completely before reinstalling them onto the machine.

Storing the Machine

Once cleaning is complete, wrap the power cord around the cord wrap for storage. Store the machine indoors in a dry location where it is protected from damage or extreme temperatures.

Proper cleaning and storage after each use helps maintain suction performance and keeps the Little Green® ready for the next spill or accident.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Little Green® clean entire rooms of carpet?

Portable spot cleaners, such as the Little Green® , are designed to clean small spots and everyday messes such as spills and localised spots across carpets, rugs and upholstery.

For cleaning whole homes with rooms of carpet and upholstery, we recommend you consider one of our full-size upright machines.

Can I use my portable or handheld carpet washer as a dry vacuum?

The BISSELL portable and handheld carpet washers are wet spray/extraction machines only. Do not use them for picking up dry debris. You may damage your spot cleaner and void your warranty. It is recommended to vacuum the area with a dry vacuum (where possible) before using your deep cleaner to remove debris and hair. Please refer to the “how to use” section of your User’s Guide for additional details.

How long will it take for my carpet to dry?

Drying time varies greatly by the type of carpet or fabric upholstery, the density/thickness of the pile, airflow around the area and the cleaning technique of the user. However, it is best to wait at least two to three hours before walking on the carpet after deep cleaning.

Some of our full-size upright machines include Express Mode, which can have carpets dry in as little as half an hour.

Note: The user is entirely in control of the water output with BISSELL machines. Press the trigger to release water & formula, let go of the trigger to dry.

What type of carpets and upholstery can I use Little Green® on?

BISSELL spot cleaners are safe and effective on many carpet types and fabric upholstery, although certain pure wool and delicate carpets or fabrics require extra special care. BISSELL recommends checking and following the care label and/or manufacturer's cleaning instructions for carpets, rugs, upholstery and car interiors prior to using our products. Our carpet washers are not suitable for delicate pure wool, viscose, jute, velvet, silk, leather or natural suede.

Which BISSELL formulas do I use in my Little Green®?

BISSELL Little Green® is compatible with any of the low-foaming BISSELL formulas labelled for use in portable machines. Refer to your User Guide for more information. Simply shop compatible formulas through our website.

How do I clean the hose on my Little Green®?

Simply suck up some clean water from a bowl to flush the hose clean before storage or use the Hydro-Rinse Tool, which is available as an optional extra.
