Designed to tackle the toughest, set-in messes around the home and beyond, it combines exclusive HydroSteam Technology with powerful suction and patented BISSELL formulas to clean up to 50% better than traditional portable cleaning methods.
From embedded pet accidents in carpet to oily food spills on upholstery, car interiors, tile and even sneakers, the SpotClean HydroSteam delivers professional-level home cleaning results in a compact, easy-to-use design. It’s the only portable deep cleaner with HydroSteam Technology, making it the go-to solution for households that need serious stain removal power without hauling out a full-size carpet washer.
Here at BISSELL, we care about finding ways to make your home a cleaner place. In this product guide, we'll walk you through exactly how to use and make the most of the SpotClean Hydrosteam. With three specialised cleaning modes, multi-surface tools and quick-drying performance, the machine is engineered for real-life messes – wherever they happen.
Key Features of the SpotClean HydroSteam
Powered by BISSELL innovation, the SpotClean HydroSteam uses HydroSteam Technology to combine steam, strong suction and advanced BISSELL formulas, breaking down tough, oily and stuck-on stains that traditional portable cleaners struggle to remove. In SteamWash Max Mode, this powerful combination cleans up to 50% better, delivering deeper stain removal across soft and hard surfaces.
Its three targeted cleaning modes allow you to tailor performance to the mess at hand. SteamWash Max Mode is ideal for heavy, greasy or ground-in stains. Steam Mode refreshes upholstery while effectively cleaning grout and tile, while Wash Mode is designed for enzyme-based stains like pet accidents, where heat-sensitive cleaning is required.
Designed with convenience in mind, the SpotClean HydroSteam features quick-drying performance, drying upholstery in as little as 20 minutes when used in Steam Mode. The dual-tank system keeps clean and dirty water separate, with an XL 1.9L clean tank and 1.5L easy-empty dirty tank, allowing you to clean more messes without frequent refilling.
Multi-surface versatility is built in, too. Included 7cm and 12cm Tough Stain Tools target everything from small spills to large upholstery areas, while the Multi-Surface Tool expands cleaning to tile, grout, car interiors and consoles and even sneakers. After cleaning, maintenance is simple thanks to removable nozzles, washable components and the HydroRinse Self-Cleaning Tool, which flushes the hose clean after every use.
Durable by design, the new blow-moulded hose offers improved flexibility and long-term reliability, and the machine is backed by a 2-year limited warranty for added peace of mind.
How to Use the SpotClean HydroSteam Step-by-Step
Step 1: Assembly (Select Models)
Remove the tanks and carefully tilt the machine onto its side. Firmly insert the wheels into the recessed holes in the base of the machine, making sure the wheels on the clean tank side align correctly with the recessed area. Return the machine to an upright position once secure.
Step 2: Preparation
Before cleaning, vacuum the area to remove loose dirt and debris. For best results, spray heavily soiled areas with a BISSELL Pretreat Spray and allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes. Always test a small, hidden area for colourfastness and examine once dry before proceeding.
Step 3: Filling the Formula Tank
The SpotClean HydroSteam is compatible only with BISSELL formulas (check out our formula guide for more in-depth information), designed for portable machines. Using non-approved formulas may damage the machine.
-
Remove the clean water tank by lifting the carry handle.
-
Flip open the tank cap.
-
Fill with warm tap water (never hot) to the appropriate line:
-
Small Area: 825 mL
-
Large Area: 1.65 L
-
Add BISSELL formula to the corresponding formula line:
-
Small Area: 120 mL
-
Large Area: 235 mL
-
Close the cap securely and return the tank to the machine until it clicks into place.
Step 4: Cleaning Your Surfaces
Release the hose from the hose clip and attach your chosen tool until it clicks. Twist the Quick Release Cord Wrap to unwind the cord and plug the machine into a grounded outlet.
Turn the dial to your selected cleaning mode to power on the machine. If using a steam-enabled mode, wait approximately 30 seconds until the steam-ready light illuminates. Prime the machine by holding the trigger over a sink or bowl until steam appears.
Position the tool directly over the stain and press and hold the trigger to dispense solution and steam (if selected). Release the trigger and use the bristles to scrub the area. Finish by making slow dry passes, applying firm downward pressure to extract water until it is no longer visible in the nozzle.
For upholstery, it’s recommended to clean the entire section for a consistent finish.
The SpotClean HydroSteam Is Perfect For…
The SpotClean HydroSteam is ideal for pet owners, families and car owners who deal with frequent spills, accidents and things like embedded coffee stains. Pet parents can confidently tackle urine and remove smells and tracked-in messes using enzyme-based formulas, helping you have pets and a clean home at the same time. Also, busy households can quickly clean your kitchen after food spills, grease and grime from carpets, lounges and stairs in a matter of minutes.
Its compact, portable design makes it especially useful for auto interiors, helping refresh seats, mats and carpets without professional detailing. The included Multi-Surface Tool also allows users to clean tile, grout and hard-to-reach areas, making it a versatile cleaning companion for the entire home.
For allergy-conscious households, HydroSteam Technology provides a deeper clean that helps remove stubborn residue, leaving surfaces visibly cleaner, fresher and faster drying and helping you win the fight against indoor allergens.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the SpotClean clean entire rooms of carpet?
No. Portable carpet washers, such as the SpotClean range, are designed to clean small spots and everyday messes such as spills, spots and sections of upholstery.
When purchasing a deep cleaner to clean your entire home, it is important to consider features such as the tank capacity, cleaning path width, motor size, and other features.
For cleaning whole homes with rooms of carpet and upholstery, you may want to consider one of our full-size upright machines.
Can I use my portable or handheld carpet washer as a dry vacuum?
The BISSELL portable and handheld carpet washers are wet spray/extraction machines only. Do not use them for picking up dry debris. You may damage your deep cleaner and void your warranty. It is recommended to vacuum the area with a dry vacuum (where possible) before using your deep cleaner to remove debris and hair.
How long will it take for my carpet to dry?
Drying time varies greatly by the type of carpet or fabric upholstery, the density/thickness of the pile, the mode used on the machine, the airflow around the area and the cleaning technique of the user. It is best to wait at least two to three hours before walking on the carpet after deep cleaning.
Some of our full-size upright machines include Express Mode, which can have carpets dry in as little as half an hour.
Note: The user is in control of the water output with BISSELL machines. Press the trigger to release water and formula, let go of the trigger for dry passes.
What type of carpets and upholstery can I use SpotClean on?
BISSELL carpet and upholstery washers are safe and effective on many carpet types and fabric upholstery, although certain pure wool and delicate carpets or fabrics require extra special care. BISSELL recommends checking and following the care label and/or manufacturer's cleaning instructions for carpets, rugs, upholstery, and car interiors prior to using our products. Our carpet washers are not suitable for delicate pure wool, viscose, jute, velvet, silk, leather or natural suede.
Which BISSELL formulas do I use in my SpotClean HydroSteam?
BISSELL SpotClean HydroSteam is compatible with any of the low-foaming BISSELL formulas labelled for use in portable machines.
Can I refresh clothes and curtains with SpotClean HydroSteam?
Provided you have checked the care label of the item prior and performed a test patch in a discreet area to ensure compatibility, we don't see why you wouldn't be able to use SpotClean HydroSteam in Steam Mode without formula to refresh garments and curtains.
Can I use the SpotClean HydroSteam to clean tile and grout?
Yes. You can use the new Multi-Surface Tool for spot cleaning tile & grout and even sneakers.
Are the attachments for my old SpotClean compatible with SpotClean HydroSteam?
No. Due to the unique technology and design of SpotClean HydroSteam, it is not compatible with accessories or attachments from SpotClean models without HydroSteam Technology.
What is HydroSteam Technology?
HydroSteam Technology is BISSELL’s patented combination of steam, water and cleaning formula to remove tough, stuck-on messes on hard floor, carpet and upholstery. Only BISSELL has HydroSteam Technology across a family of products, including: CrossWave, Revolution and SpotClean.
HydroSteam Technology makes it easier and faster to completely remove the worst stuck-on messes and set-in stains. The combination of steam, water and cleaning formula works to loosen and lift messes from a variety of surfaces.
Is SpotClean HydroSteam the best spot cleaner?
At the time of release, SpotClean HydroSteam outperforms all other models in its Steam Wash Max Clean Mode due to the integration of HydroSteam Technology.
What are the optional castor wheels for on select models?
A set of four castor wheels is available for purchase as an optional extra. Certain retailer-exclusive models may have the set of wheels included in the box as part of the configuration of accessories. They do not provide any functional or performance benefit to the machine, except for making it more portable.
How do I clean the hose on my SpotClean?
Simply use the supplied Hydro-Rinse Tool after each use to flush your hose clean before storage. The Hydro-Rinse Tool can also be purchased separately on our website.
What is the difference between the BISSELL SpotClean machines?
The included attachments, warranty, suction motor strength, hose length, and other features can differ between models. To find the right machine for you, use our website's compare function to compare up to three products at a time. Look for the 'Compare' or 'Compare this product' buttons.
