Exploring the Award-Winning Cleaner, the SpotClean

BISSELL’s SpotClean is an award-winning cleaning staple and an Aussie household favourite for effectively removing stains on carpets and upholstery. We’ve maintained its status over the years with advancements like Heatwave Technology that keep it ahead of others, harnessing better technical features to keep you cleaning your carpets as effectively and conveniently as possible. The SpotClean now comes with 50% more suction power, helping you quickly remove most spots and stains from your carpeted surfaces, including rugs, upholstery and car interiors.

SpotClean’s compact design makes it not only able to clean this diversity of fabric but also easily possible, requiring minimal effort to move it from room to room or to your car. That means wherever your spillage, spot or stain occurs, your SpotClean will access and extract it fast.

Features of the BISSELL SpotClean

Starting with its primary purpose, the SpotClean powers through tough stains and odours thanks to its advanced technology, which allows 50% more suction for a superior machine. Pairing with BISSELL’s patented formulas, the SpotClean tackles messes such as coffee spills, red wine, muddy paw prints, embedded dirt, and much more, even when they’ve set in! With more efficient cleaning, the job is done quickly, and the carpet dries faster, reducing the time you need to avoid areas.

Some spot removers only mask or reduce the stain. In comparison, BISSELL’s specially designed pretreatment sprays, formula and OXY Boost deliver deep-down, permanent stain removal. And when you’re finished, the Self-Cleaning Tough Stain Tool rids your machine of any messes, residue or dirt it picked up with a one-touch hose and tool cleanout.

For areas that are particularly annoying or hard to reach, like car seats or the edge of carpets, our new blow-moulded hose provides extra flexibility and durability. You can also now fill and empty the tanks faster and simpler with BISSELL’s re-engineered two-tank technology.

All of these features are intentionally considered in the latest design to come together and create the perfect solution for quick and permanent clean-ups.

Step-By-Step Guide to Using SpotClean

1. Assemble the Machine

After taking the parts out of the packaging, install the hose clip by inserting it into the back of the machine and rotating it clockwise until it clicks into place. Then, wrap the hose around the bottom of the machine and place it on the hose clip.

2. Fill the Formula Tank

Once assembled, it’s time to choose your formula from BISSELL’s formula guide and add BISSELL’s Oxy Boost to form a solution. Fill the tank with this solution by lifting the clean water tank up from its position to remove it. Unscrew the tank’s cap and, based on the size of your mess, add water to the appropriate fill line. As a rough guide, a small area requires 400 mL and a large area requires 800 mL. Now, add a formula to the line, again based on the size of your mess. For a small area, add 60 mL and 120 mL for a large area. Then, tighten the cap back into place and align the clean tank with the groove on the machine and slide it down until it clicks.

3. Pretreat the Spill or Stain

Pretreat the area by applying a BISSELL Pretreat Spray, and let it soak into the spot for at least 15 minutes before using the machine.

4. Clean with SpotClean

To use the SpotClean, unwrap the hose and attach your preferred tool to the end of the grip. Unwrap the power cord and plug it into an outlet, and then press the power switch to ON. While holding the attached tool just above the spill or stain, hold the trigger to release mist solution over the area, then release the trigger and gently scrub the area using the bristles.

Next, apply a firm downward pressure with the tool, starting from the back of the stain and pulling toward you. Release the trigger and go over the stain with continuous dry passes to remove the moisture – repeat this until you can’t see any water in the nozzle.

Apply the same steps when using the Spraying Crevice Tool.

Using the Self-Cleaning Tough Stain Tool

When using the Self-Cleaning Tough Stain Tool, before you apply the cleaning steps, first choose your cleaning method: the bristle block should be used for everyday soft surface cleaning, and the rubberised block can be used for embedded pet hair and debris. Pull the bottom latch to release the bristle block from the tool and insert your tool block. Slide the tool lever up to put the tool into SPRAY mode, and then follow the cleaning steps earlier in this section to clean the tough stain.

Using the 3-in-1 Stair Tool

For stairs and tight corners, the 3-in-1 tool can be used in three ways:

  1. The flat edge to clean the stair tread
  2. The indented edge is used to clean the outside corner of stairs
  3. The pointed edge is used to clean the crevice.

Once the tool is attached to the hose clip, twist it to the desired position (the downward-facing edge is the active cleaning mode). Point the tool about 3 cm above the spot or stain and hold the trigger to spray the solution. Release the trigger and suction up the stain by moving the tool over the carpet slowly, moving backwards.

5. Let Area Dry Naturally & Repeat Step 4 if Necessary

Once you’ve cleaned the spot or stain, leave the area to air dry naturally. If you still see some remnants of the stain, repeat the cleaning process in step 4 as needed to completely remove the mark. In some cases, multiple rounds may be needed on areas that have not been deep cleaned regularly before or for particularly stubborn stains.

Choose the SpotClean For…

The SpotClean is a helpful portable carpet and upholstery washer for households who deal with spills of all kinds – coffee, juice, wine, oils, you name it. For families and pet owners in particular, adding the SpotClean to your cleaning repertoire means you can keep your house spotless with a comprehensive clean, extracting those tough stains and spills that your vacuum, mop or steam cleaner can’t manage.

BISSELL SpotClean Care and Maintenance

Care for your SpotClean and it will pay dividends for years to come! Care and maintenance are simple and just take a few steps to complete different tasks that will keep the SpotClean in top condition.

Emptying the Dirty Water Tank

After each use of the SpotClean, it’s important to remove the dirty water so you can start fresh each time, but it’s especially important to empty it when the water reaches the ‘MAX’ line. To do this, empty the tank, turn the machine off and unplug it. Remove the dirty water tank by tilting it outward, and then pour the liquid down a sink. Rinse the tank with clean water and reinstall it by inserting the bottom of the tank first and pushing the top of the tank toward the machine until it clicks into place.

Cleaning and Storing Your Machine

To clean the machine, first turn it OFF and unplug the machine. Disconnect the attached tools by pushing down on the button above the hose grip and pulling straight off – be careful not to twist the tool when you remove it. If your model includes the Self-Cleaning Tough Stain Tool, remove the tool lens and rinse it. Rinse all tools under clean water and then allow them to dry.

To store the machine after use, wrap the cord and hose around the brackets on the machine. Store the machine indoors, in a dry location where it’s not likely to be damaged.

Cleaning Machine with Self-Cleaning Tough Stain Tool

Utilising the self-cleaning function is a fantastic and convenient way to care for your SpotClean. To use it, turn the machine ON, and slide the tool lever down to CLEANOUT mode. Press the trigger to activate the CLEANOUT function. The solution mixture will begin to come through the tool and the hose to clean itself. When this is complete, you can slide the lever back to SPRAY when you’re ready to clean a spot again.

SpotClean FAQs

Can the SpotClean clean entire rooms of carpet?

Portable spot cleaners, such as the SpotClean range, are designed to clean small spots and everyday messes such as spills and localised spots across carpets, rugs and upholstery.
For cleaning whole homes with rooms of carpet and upholstery, we recommend you consider one of our full-size upright machines.

Can I use my portable or handheld carpet washer as a dry vacuum?

The BISSELL portable and handheld carpet washer is a wet spray/extraction machine only. Do not use them for picking up dry debris. You may damage your deep cleaner and void your warranty. It is recommended to vacuum the area with a dry vacuum (where possible) before using your deep cleaner to remove debris and hair. Please refer to the “how to use” section of your User’s Guide for additional details.

How long will it take for my carpet or surface to dry?

Drying time varies greatly by the type of carpet or fabric upholstery, the density/thickness of the pile, the airflow around the area, and the cleaning technique of the user. However, it is best to wait at least two to three hours before walking on the carpet after deep cleaning.
Some of our full-size upright machines include Express Mode, which can have carpets dry in as little as half an hour.

Note: The user is entirely in control of the water output with BISSELL machines. Press the trigger to release water & formula, and let go of the trigger to dry.

What type of carpets and upholstery can I use SpotClean on?

BISSELL carpet and upholstery washers are safe and effective on many carpet types and fabric upholstery, although certain pure wool and delicate carpets or fabrics require extra special care. BISSELL recommends checking and following the care label and/or manufacturer's cleaning instructions for carpets, rugs, upholstery, and car interiors prior to using our products. Our carpet washers are not suitable for delicate pure wool, viscose, jute, velvet, silk, leather, or natural suede.

Which BISSELL formulas do I use in my SpotClean?

BISSELL SpotClean is compatible with any of the low-foaming BISSELL formulas labelled for use in portable machines. Refer to your User Guide for more information. Simply shop compatible formulas through our website.

How do I clean the hose on my SpotClean?

Simply use the supplied 4" Self-Cleaning Tough Stain Tool in the cleaning mode after each use to flush your hose clean before storage.
